FAQs

How do sessions work?

Sessions are 50 minutes and can be face to face, online or over the phone. We meet regularly, usually weekly or fortnightly and we explore the difficulties you bring. Sometimes that will be the thing which brought you to therapy in the first place but often it will be something which has popped up in the moment. It is entirely up to you what you bring and I will support you as we sort through it.

Will we be able to work together?
Is my information confidential?

It is. The ability to share problems relies on the understanding that you can trust me with your information. All details are kept strictly confidential in line with professional standards. My practice conforms to GDPR requirements.

Accessibility?

My counselling room is on the ground floor with a small step to access. Toilet facilities are available.

How do I book a session?

Sessions can be booked 6 days a week, Sunday to Friday, generally from 10am till 9pm. Sundays are limited to evening sessions from 6pm. Space for new clients tends to be changeable so it's best to just get in touch and we'll work out what is easiest for you to fit around your life.

What should I expect in my first session?

Initial assessment is all about gathering information and finding out if we can work together. It is a chance to find out if your problems are able to be tackled directly or if there is some work to be done to get to that point. It is also a way of seeing what my approach looks like and if it fits with how you feel things should proceed.

What will I be paying?

Initial assessments and individual sessions are priced at £50 and payment can be made by invoice, bank transfer, cash or card.

Prices are subject to annual review.

Do I need counselling?

We won't know that until we have our first session. Not all therapeutic relationships are a good fit and a bad experience is often what keeps people away from trying therapy for a second time. All I can promise is that I will listen and try my best to understand your situation. Our work together grows from there.

If you feel like you're struggling and need some support then why not reach out and see if counselling can provide a way forward for you. You may find that a few sessions will help you to better understand your situation and allow for a clearer picture of your options. That can give us a much better idea of the scope and shape of the work we can do together, it may signal the need for a referral to a more specialised form of therapy such as CBT or you might just find that a few sessions is all you need for now. The important thing to remember is that your health and wellbeing are important, even if you've got used to telling yourself or hearing that others should come first. Getting started with your own self care is the foundation for all that follows.

How many sessions will I need?

I can make suggestions based on how you present at your initial assessment but this remains completely up to you and your needs in the current moment. Some problems respond well to a short block of sessions while others require more time. We'll discuss and review how you feel as we go, as no one problem has a specific solution. With this in mind, we'll work within a time frame where expectations are achievable for you.
